Pre-Vet Intern Program

Experience the world of veterinary medicine up close with an immersive hospital internship.

Gain the foundational skills necessary for success in the veterinary field.

Work in a variety of departments including Vet Assistant, Kennel and Hospital Administration.

Get PAID to work 25 - 40 hours per week (your choice)!

Attend monthly engaging, educational seminars to better prepare you for success.

Participating hospitals are located in Birmingham, AL and Montgomery, AL.

To give you a jump start on the basics of each position and ensure you’re ready to dive in on day one, we’ll provide the training guides that our teammates use during onboarding. All participating students must complete these online training programs prior to their internship start date.

In addition to working in the hospital, you’ll also attend small group educational seminars that will give you additional insight into and prepare you for success in the world of veterinary medicine. These sessions will be provided at a participating hospital and will cover topics such as:

Dental Training

Live Necropsies

Pet Husbandry Skills

Restraining Techniques

Phone Etiquette

Vaccine Protocols

Veterinary School Interview Program

And more!

The first Pre-Vet Training Seminar will be held in June. These seminars are held once a month (either Saturday or Sunday) and attendance is HIGHLY encouraged. (8 seminars are required each year of the internship.)

Who is eligible for this internship?

This program is designed for Pre-Vet Undergraduates (ideally Sophomores and Juniors) who are on track for applying to Veterinary School or an Accredited Veterinary Nursing/Technician program.  A cumulative GPA of 3.3-4.0 is preferred, as the program is demanding, and students must have a track record of excellent time management, dedication to academics, dependability and an established work ethic.

Who is eligible for this internship?

The Internship Program officially begins in May with on-site training. Full-time participants (35-40 hours/week) will begin working in the hospitals between mid-May and June, with the date to be determined by the participating hospital and student.

To get the most of the program, we highly encourage students to continue working on a part-time basis during the Fall, Winter and Spring semesters. (More puppy kisses, more varied experiences, and more to love about the veterinary field!)

Application Meetings

Join us for an application informational meeting at your university! We'll discuss the application process and the program in more detail at these meetings. Attendance is required at a meeting to be considered for the internship program.

On-campus meetings will begin in January. Applicants should contact their Pre-Veterinary advisors for scheduled meetings at their university.
